Salam.
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim~
"O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious)." <183>
"[Observing Saum (fasts)] for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskin (poor person) (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast is better for you if only you know." <184>
"The month of Ramadhan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadhan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Saum (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allah for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him." <185>
"And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright." <186>
Few points (from the above Qur'anic ayah) to ponder:
{183} --> Observing As-Saum (fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious)
Fasting is obligatory for all Muslims. Fasting here is refering to fasting in the month of Ramadhan. Thus, if we are truly a Muslim, we must make sure that we obey all the things that is being commanded by Allah in the Qur'an as well as prohibit all the things that He told us to avoid. As we all know, fasting is one of the pillar of Islam and for those who do not fast will be considered as sinful and he would rather not to be called a Muslim because he does not really fulfill the five pillar of Islam. And when we fast, it will benefit us not just in this world, but also in the Hereafter; we will be among the al-Muttaqun (the pious people) in His side.
{184} --> but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days.
--> for those who can fast with difficulty (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskin (poor person) (for every day).
This ayah explains about rukhsah in fasting. Allah says, for those who are fasting when they are ill or on a journey, they have to replace their fasting with the same number of days (that they did not fast) in the other days after Ramadhan. And for those who have difficulty during their fasting, like the old people, pregnant lady and a mother who is breastfeeding her child, they can break their fast. However, they have a choice, either to replace their fasts or feeding the poor.
{185} --> The month of Ramadhan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong).
--> He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allah for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him.
Ramdhan is known to the holiest month among the other months in Islam. One of its specialty is that the Qur'an itself is revealed by Allah to Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. within this month. And I'm sure that we all know that Allah won't reveal the Qura'an without a purpose. It is our source of guidance and it tells us what is right and what is wrong. So, as Muslims, it's our job to recite it and practice all its teachings into our daily lives. Hence, everything that have been stated by Allah in the Qur'an are for our own advantages. Allah's rules never burden us. He always make things easier for us. He did this because He wants us to perform ibadah to Him continuously because it is our duty as His slaves, to worship Him no matter in what condition we are in, as performing ibadah is the only way to make us closer to our Creator. (As stated in the previous ayah [184]: about rukhsah in fasting) See, how much Allah loves us? He never burdens us to do something that beyond our ability. So, why can't we be grateful to Him? Just think about it.
{186} --> And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge).
As Muslims, why it is very important for us to make the du'a? Can you tell me why? Exactly! Because Allah will love us more. For those who are seeking for a true love, make du'a often. It doesn't have to be every time after you've done your five times daily prayers. There are no specific time Muslim need to make du'a to Allah. So, we are free to make du'a anytime we like. Like Allah states in the Holy Book, whenever His slaves pray to Him, he will grant their wishes. That's why our late prophet recommended us to wake up early in the morning (qiammullail) to perform tahajjud, because within this time, Allah is very near to us and when we make du'a, He will fulfill it. So, what are you waiting for, let's start making du'a as many as we can from today!
Wassalam.
p/s: What is good comes from Allah and what is bad comes from my own weakness. Happy Ramadhan fasting and may Allah bless us all!
With love,
